Crushing on Mimi Strong
I’m getting ready to self-publish a few short stories on Amazon. One of the tasks I’ve decided is important in accomplishing this goal is to see what else is out there. Since I have no budget for this, I’ve focused on reading some freebies. And oh boy I have one big whopping writer-girl crush on a new-to-me-writer Mimi Strong. (Check out her website, here. )
“Lexie’s First Time : A Prequel to the Borrowed Billionaire and Billionaire Novels” was her first story I read. I was blown away. It’s pure and simple sexy entertainment—I mean that in the best possible way, of course.
On the other hand, she pushes at boundaries a bit, as well. Writing in the “New Adult genre,” her characters are young. Lexie is only 18. It gave me pause. As an 18-year-old, I was nowhere near having my first sexual experience. But I paused again. I knew plenty of young women who were. My hesitation was finally put to rest by the writing—she just plunges in a way that makes you more comfortable, and even more curious about the story. But many people might say my discomfort is exactly what kept me reading. That almost “ick” factor can also be the thing ignites a reader’s curiosity.
What sucked me into Mimi’s writing is the voice. I mean it’s brilliant. It’s a deceptively easy voice—but just try to write like this. I dare you. She has that late teenaged/early adult voice down—not one false note. She is also very funny and her sex scenes are sizzling. Funny and sexy—also not easy.
I loved the first sentence in the prequel “Before I met the sexy billionaire Luther Thorne, and I mean long before, I was just your typical shy girl who masturbated a lot. “ Who would NOT want to read more?
So of course I downloaded another freebie by her. “Laura’s Solo Honeymoon – The Ice Cream Shop Boy #1 (Erotic Romance)” is a stroy about a jilted woman who takes her own honeymoon and find a sexy romance at the beach. Once again, the voice is true. Her characters are older than Lexie in the first story. I’m not certain how old the main female lead is–maybe mid-20s. But the lead male is 21. And he is HAWT. (Okay. I can say a 21-year-old is HAWT without being a dirty old lady, can’t I? Heh. )
One other thing to note about Mimi is that she is self-published—or at least that’s what it looks like to me. Here we have another self-published writer rising to the top of the Amazon lists and USA Today Charts.
As I mentioned I did get both of her stories free on Amazon—which is a very smart move on her part. They are both so good that I want more and have already bought the rest of the Ice Cream series— which is the way it’s supposed to work. I’m sure we will be seeing more of Mimi. Maybe she’s be the next erotic romance superstar with a multimillion dollar book deal. Her tag-line is “Just trying to be the next overnight success … 15 novels and still writing. ” I hope she will be. Go Mimi! Have you read any of her books?
