Class Is In Session At The Porn Academy

Where I grew up in the relatively sheltered midwest, when we thought of our future careers the process went roughly like this: graduate high school, go to college, declare a major in something like accounting, graduate and get a job as an accountant. The end.

How times have changed! Now there are more options than ever available for aspiring youth, and college courses to go right along with them. Web Developer. Business Analytics. Entrepreneur. Porn Star. Wait … what?

Yes indeedy. Porn star. Leave it to the “Italian Stallion,” a.k.a. Italian porn star Rocco Siffredi, to launch the University of Porn for aspiring stars. Certainly he’s got the creds to do it. With over, 1,300 porn flicks on his bio, including such hits as The Ass Collector and Buttman’s Bend Over Babes 4, Rocco knows a thing or two about performing under the lights. He made a name for himself for his “gonzo style” pornographic films and has been in sex scenes ranging from traditional to extreme. But, like anyone, Rocco’s getting a little older and needs to spread his wings. So passing along his knowledge of the industry and how to make it is included in the Porn Academy’s curriculum.

Of course, with the declared major being a film endeavor, why waste pointless time in classrooms? In tandem with his University of Porn, Siffredi has launched his HARD Academy reality show – whose episodes can be viewed via the wonders of a YouTube subscription channel – to document his teachings. In it he talks about such things as what sex positions work best for the camera, and how you can appear “believable” in your scenes.

When Siffredi announced the launch of the reality show, he received applications from thousands of aspiring hopefuls. Lots of people, apparently, are open to the idea of getting paid to have sex on camera. But why?

I did a little digging and found some interviews among active and former female porn stars about why they entered the biz to begin with. Their initial reasons were varied, but something interesting happened along the way. They all found that being in porn allowed them to freely express themselves sexually in ways that they never could before. Former star Satine Phoenix put it like this: “That specific style of sexual empowerment, being able to wield sexuality as power — I needed to do that in order to be able to turn into the woman I am now.”

Hmmm. Porn as empowerment? I see a parallel to why some of us write erotic romance. Describing the sexual experience so that it’s arousing to the reader is certainly empowering, just as I imagine being expressive as an actor in sex scenes accomplishes the same, at least for some. So if you want to “reveal” yourself in all your glory on camera and need the inside scoop on how to do it, perhaps the Italian Stallion can teach you tricks of the trade. Interested? You can write for information at academy@roccosiffredi.com or  – if you speak Italian – check out his YouTube introductory video.

You know, it’s just amazing what happens in our society. Amazing.

Yes, sex is power. But is it empowerment? Hmmmm. Are the women who NEED to feel that their sexuality is their only form of power not ultimately even more vulnerable and exploitable than the rest of us? Not sure their argument that they are empowered is persuasive in the context of the meat grinder that is the porn industry.

But it’s a brave new world out there. Perhaps part of what people learn at Porn U is how not to be exploited by the system. One can only hope.

I don’t see a lowdown of the full curriculum. From what I did see it was more in the how-to vein of, for example, “how to look arousing on camera.” But I agree – the inclusion of “how not to get exploited by the industry” would be a good thing indeed.
